Régusse is a typical Provencal village, in the enviable position as it is located very close to the Verdon Gorges (12 kms) and Lake St. Croix, but also not far from the Mediterranean (about 1 h drive). At nearly 600 meters, it enjoys a beautiful environment, composed of oak forests clinging to the hillsides.
Village steeped in history, we find the first references to the Romans who called it "Régussia" which was only a hamlet. From the twelfth century, the Templars built an impressive castle which traces still remain of interest, such as the northern ramparts of a medieval court and in the village.
The main street of Régusse, Gariel Course, named after an opponent of Napoleon III who followed Victor Hugo for many years in exile in Guernsey. The streets of the medieval village, narrow and sometimes steep, converge on the Square Clock, beautifully restored.
During your visit to Régusse, do not miss the two mills. Beautifully restored, they are the center of a great festival held annually the first weekend of August. On this occasion, they make even one of the few small mills flour sacks.
