The Lake Sainte Croix

Sainte Croix du VerdonThe village of Sainte Croix du Verdon saw his fate switch in 1973, during the impoundment of the lake that bears his name. Previously isolated on its rocky promontory, somewhat forgotten, perhaps before his valley, he suddenly saw the waters of the Verdon bathe his feet. Tourism has of course followed!

This village built on a hillside, largely restored in the Provencal tradition, is of great elegance. Its streets, the eye is far around the lake which offers a splendid landscape. Sainte Croix du Verdon has great beaches suitable for sunbathing, but you will also find all the water activities you expect. Of course you can hoist the sail on Lake St. Croix, or go for a sail power, the use of gasoline engines is prohibited on the Verdon, which will ensure the quiet and no pollution!

Note that Sainte Croix du Verdon was previously called Sainte Croix de Verdon. The name change was published in the Official Gazette September 15, 2005.

Sainte Croix du Verdon is built at an altitude of 525 meters, and has about one hundred inhabitants in the winter.
